Why Support the Preservation of Neighborhood Gardens?
Philadelphians create gardens for many reasons: to grow healthy produce to feed their families and friends. To green formerly blighted properties in the city. To spend time being active outdoors. To commune with neighbors. To create beauty.
NGT supports much of the work that can be overwhelming for the individual gardener—everything from providing liability insurance to setting up water service—but it does so only with the help of supporters from around the country.
Support at all levels helps further the mission of acquiring and preserving community gardens and shared open space in order to enhance the quality of life in Philadelphia neighborhoods. $12 covers a month of water bills for one garden. $250 pays for one garden’s stormwater charges for a year. $1,000 provides for the recording charges and title insurance needed to acquire a new property for gardening.
Growing a garden takes a whole community—of individuals with their hands both in and out of the dirt.
